High Voltage DC Relay Helium Leak Detector Safety Guidelines

1. Critical Safety Protocols

1.1 Power Isolation
▶︎ Always de-energize high-voltage DC relays before leak testing. Verify zero energy state using a certified voltage tester.
1.2 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
▶︎ Mandatory use of:

  • 10kV insulated gloves (ASTM D120 standards)

  • ANSI Z87.1-rated safety goggles

  • Flame-resistant lab coat

2. Equipment Maintenance & Inspection

Component Check Frequency Acceptance Criteria
Helium supply lines Pre-operation No cracks, pressure ≤0.5 MPa
Pressure gauges Weekly Calibration cert. valid
Vacuum sensors 50 operating hours Response time <2 seconds

▶︎ Immediate action required if:

  • Helium concentration deviation >5%

  • Gauge drift ≥±2% full scale

3. Gas & Environmental Controls

3.1 Helium Specifications

Purity:  ≥99.995% (Grade 5.0)

Pressure: 1.5–2.0 bar (per EN ISO 20486)

3.2 Environmental Limits

+ Optimal: 20°C±3°C / 30–50% RH

! Restricted: >35°C or <15°C / >70% RH (risk of false positives)

4. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

5. Emergency Response

▶︎ Helium exposure symptoms:

  • Dizziness or voice distortion → Evacuate area immediately

  • Contact with liquid He → Flush skin with water (15 mins)

▶︎ Leak detector alarm triggers:

  1. Shut off helium supply valve

  2. Activate ventilation system

  3. Report via Form HSE-007 within 1 hour
